CAMP HANUMAN - Kirtan Training

Bhakti Heart Center, San Juan Island, WA

July 1st - 3rd, 2022

Welcome to Camp Hanuman! This three-day Bhakti immersion is a playful and supportive experience designed to provide you with the skills and confidence to lead kirtan. Whether you aspire to lead kirtan in public, or simply wish to expand your home practice, Camp Hanuman will inspire and encourage you to take that leap of faith!

"I have no musical experience...can I lead kirtan?"

Yes, you can! No musical experience required, if you can clap, you can lead kirtan. Camp Hanuman is all-levels, guaranteed to be an accessible learning environment for beginners, while simultaneously offering plenty of opportunity for more experienced kirtan leaders to take it to the next level!

Our "Camp" base is a gorgeous mountain lodge in the magical Icicle Creek Canyon of Leavenworth, WA and we've enlisted the lovely and talented Chef Sam of Spreading Roots to keep us nourished during our time together. Prepare to be pampered with lovely organic, locally-sourced, vegetarian meals.

Not just any camp ;)

CAMP PROGRAMS

Kirtan, lots and lots of kirtan – Everyone's in the band, so bring your instruments! We’ll spend time exploring the typical kirtan instruments - harmonium, kartals (hand symbols), drums - and also learn how to incorporate other instruments into the mix - guitar, ukulele, flute, etc.   ***Please note: Harmoniums are not required, but highly recommended. Let us know if you'd like help purchasing one.

Voice – how to access, how to release the fears that keep us quiet, how to project, how to breathe, how to ground, how to sing fearless, loud and proud – we call that #tonsilsout. Come to Camp, we’ll explain. ;-)

Storytelling – If you ask Rob what he’s reading at any given time, I guarantee it’s the Ramayana. It lives by the bed table and his enthusiasm for it has yet to wane since he first picked it up. His retelling of the epic is riveting and not to be missed. Grab your tea, your coziest blanket, get comfy and prepare to go on a journey of love, devotion, and intrigue.

Yogic Gods and Goddesses – What exactly are we singing!? The divine names! That’s it. But let’s dive deeper. These names can lead us straight into our hearts, no fluff, no side-stepping, a powerfully direct line to our true self. We’ll learn about the yogic pantheon, who’s who, how they’re related and what aspect of ourselves they can help to illuminate.

Satsang – This may very well be the most important element of kirtan – the community. Kirtan wouldn’t be the same without the collective energy, love, and upliftment of the group. Friendship, family and a clear understanding of who we are – love, only love, is what Satsang can bring. There is no higher vibration than this knowing.

Movement - Melissa will help our bodies stay relaxed, loose and lovely with all-levels yoga sessions throughout the training.
